The Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich (Leibniz-LSB@TUM), a legal foundation under civil law based in Freising, is a prominent member of the Leibniz Association. Our institute integrates cutting-edge biomolecular research, bioinformatics, and high-performance analytical technologies to explore the complex interactions between the human organism and food components.
To strengthen our Molecular Modeling and the Integrative Food Systems Analysis groups in Section 3, we are currently looking for two committed working students.
Key Responsibilities:
-Support the re-engineering, maintenance, and extension of the Leibniz-LSB@TUM scientific databases
- Develop Python-based APIs and interfaces for accessing, integrating, and processing scientific data
- Support the development and improvement of user-friendly web interfaces and data visualization
components
- Work closely with researchers from molecular modeling, bioinformatics, and food systems biology to translate scientific requirements into practical technical solutions
Depending on the candidate’s background and interests, the position can have a stronger focus on backend/database development or frontend development.
Applicant profile:
- Currently enrolled in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or a related field
-Programming experience and a good understanding of software development principles
-Experience with Python-based APIs and relational databases (particularly SQL) and/or with a
modern frontend framework
- Interested in working with scientific data and in developing digital tools for research
- Enjoy solving technical problems and are willing to engage in iterative development, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Able to work independently, reliably, and with attention to detail, while also enjoying collaborative work in an interdisciplinary team
- Have good written and spoken English communication skills
- Previous knowledge of biochemistry, bioinformatics, or food science is an advantage, but not required
What we offer:
- A respectful and collegial working atmosphere
- An interesting and responsible role in the context of cutting-edge non-university research
- Close supervision and structured training in solid-phase synthesis and analytical techniques
- Hands-on experience with nucleic acid chemistry and method development
- A supportive and collaborative working atmosphere
- Flexible working hours to support a healthy work-life balance
- A motivated team looking forward to welcoming you
