Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology and Public Health

The Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences (www.chab.ethz.ch/) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (www.pharma.ethz.ch). The professorship is located at ETH Zurich with a close connection to the Cantonal Hospital Baden (KSB).

The new professor will establish a successful, internationally recognized group in pharmacoepidemology and public health. The focus of the professorship should include post-approval studies of drug safety and effectiveness with real-world data as well as the understanding of the use and effects of medications in the clinical setting using epidemiological methods. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program on topics related to the development of new statistical or methodological approaches, pharmacogenetics, drug–drug interactions, polypharmacy, clinical pharmacy, machine learning, modeling, and prediction.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and to engage in cooperative projects with the Cantonal Hospital Baden (KSB) and other Swiss hospitals. The candidate will also contribute to strengthening the strategic focus in Health and Medicine of ETH Zurich.

Candidates should have a solid background in pharmacoepidemiology and related fields. A PhD, MD/PhD, or comparable degree in epidemiology, public health, clinical pharmacy, biostatistics, data science, or a closely related field is required, as is a track record of internationally recognized real-world evidence-based research on medication use, safety, and efficacy. The appointee is expected to have the proven ability to lead interdisciplinary, multi-institutional research programs and to establish partnerships with clinical teams, healthcare providers, and policymakers, given the anticipated close collaborations with Swiss hospitals, regulatory stakeholders, pharmacies, and public health organizations. Experience in drug policy evaluation and medication safety research is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching at the interface of pharmacoepidemiology, clinical pharmacy, public health, and data science. Strong teaching skills, a strong dedication to high-quality teaching, and a consistent commitment to mentoring and supporting the development of upcoming scientists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals are all expected of the appointee.

In general, at ETH Zurich undergraduate level courses are taught in German or English and graduate level courses are taught in English.
