Professorship (W 2) for Physical Chemistry of Condensed Matter

Founded in 1991, the University of Potsdam has firmly established itself in the scientific landscape and has become an outstanding economic factor and development engine for the region. It has a high level of third-party funding, has won several awards for teaching, and has a service-oriented admi nistration and has received several awards for being family-friendly. The Faculty of Science, Institute of Chemistry, at the University of Potsdam invites appli- cations for the following position to be filled as soon as possible:

Professorship (W 2) for Physical Chemistry of Condensed Matter

The professorship is expected to cover the field of experimental physical chemistry in re-search and teaching and should be aligned with one or, ideally, several of the following focus areas of the Institute of Chemistry: “Light and Matter”, “Molecular and Biomolecular Chemistry,” and “Polymers, Materials and Interfaces”.

The successful candidate will have a research profile, for example in the field of time-resolved laser spectroscopy of condensed matter, that is internationally recognized through publications in leading journals and success in securing competitive researc h funding. The professorship is expected to complement and strengthen the existing research activities at the university, in particular within CRC 1636 “Elementary Processes of Light -Driven Reactions at Nanoscale Metals”.

The successful candidate is expected to collaborate closely within the Institute of Chemistry, with neighboring institutes within the Faculty of Science, and with the research institutes and universities in the capital region, as well as to actively participate in other large-scale externally funded projects and coordinated programs.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in the chemistry science and teacher-education programs (German- taught B.Sc., B.Ed. and M.Ed.; English- taught M.Sc.) as well as in the minor program. Applicants whose native language is not German are expected to acquire the language skills necessary for effective communication with students and staff within two years.

The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in Section 43 subsection 1 sentence 1 no. 1 – 3 and no. 4 letter a of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG). The appoint- ment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 42 BbgHG.
